On 8 May 2012 the highest total for any Post-War and Contemporary Art Auction was achieved at Christie’s Evening Sale in New York totaling $388,488,000. On this historic night the Most Expensive Work by a Post-War Artist was achieved when Mark Rothko’s Orange, Red, Yellow sold for a record-breaking $86,882,500. The Pincus Collection, which was offered in both the evening and day sales, set a World Record for Any Collection of Post-War and Contemporary Art at Auction, realizing $174,944,500.
