Alberto Giacometti's Femme de Venise V, conceived in 1956 and cast in 1958, achieved $10,274,500 at the Impressionist and Modern Evening Sale in New York on 3 November. The work is from renowned series of sculptures known as the Femmes de Venise, comprising nine individual but closely related figures cast in bronze, which played a significant role in establishing Giacometti's fame and reputation as the most important sculptor of the post-war era.
