Books and manuscripts continue to achieve high prices at auction, with fine examples of important works and rare books in unusual subjects meeting especially strong competition. Building on the great success of the past season we are now seeking consignments for our November auction.
Demand for quality science books has been increasingly strong over the past year, culminating in the sale of works by Galileo that included Il saggiatore 1623 which sold for £16,250 (estimate: £3,000-5,000), while Kepler’s first important work on optics, Ad Vitellionem, sold for £11,250 (estimate: £2,000-3,000). We also invite consignments of inscribed copies of 20th-century literary masterpieces, which are always popular and attract enthusiastic bidding. The collection of Vladimir Nabokov books and objects, the property of his son Dmitri, achieved more than double the estimate, and we look forward to building on this success next season.
If you are interested in consigning in our November sale, please arrange an appointment with us by contacting the department directly.
Consignment Deadline: 28 September 2011.
