Mark Rothko's rediscovered Abstract Expressionist masterpiece from 1961, Untitled #17, realized $33,682,500 at the Post-War & Contemporary Art Evening Sale in New York on 11 May 2011. The owner of the work acquired directly from Rothko, and it has remained in private hands since 1965. It is one of only ten paintings that have come to light since the Rothko catalogue raisonné was published in 1998.
