Invitation to Consign: Important Russian Art

Russian Art continues to be one of the most dynamic areas of the international art market with an expanding base of international collectors. For the second year running, Christie’s achieved the highest prices for a Russian painting and work of art offered at auction. Our 26 November 2012 Important Russian Art sale realised £15,244,725, which represents an 18% increase on the previous year.

  • In the November sale Christie’s was the only house to achieve 100% of our low estimate, making the chances of a successful sale at Christie’s significantly higher than at a competing house.
  • Following competitive international bidding, in 2013 we achieved nine new auction records for Russian artists, including Kustodiev (£4,409,250, Bakst (£937,250) and Shevchenko (£433,250).
  • We sold the top lots of the winter and spring 2012 seasons and of the year: a badge & star of the Order of St Andrew (£481,250) and an Imperial Presentation snuff-box by Hahn (£481,250).
  • In 2012, Christie’s maintained its position as the global Fabergé market leader, achieving 66% market share in Fabergé over our nearest competitor.
  • Demand for fresh works from Private Collections is very strong: the top ten works sold in November were privately sourced. Works from the private collection of Peter Kapitza and from the families of artists - Iakunchikova & Chekhonin were 100% sold.
  • Christie’s consistently achieves the strongest results and highest selling rates at auction for Russian works of art and Fabergé.

We are now accepting consignments for our 3 June 2013 Important Russian Art sale in London. We would be delighted to provide a complimentary and confidential valuation of your Russian art. Please contact us to schedule an appointment.
