Seasonal Stars: Our Favorite Fall Picks

It’s feeling rather cool outside and as we quickly approach the shorter and colder days of autumn, we can’t help but think of cosy interiors filled with warm mahogany, bright colors, chic modern design, and those special quirks that make a space truly unique.

Christie’s Interiors is offering up a host of wonderful pieces this autumn that will make a wonderfully dynamic interior for the autumn. Take for example this dressing table and chest of drawers by Gio Ponti, harkening the latest trend for all things with a 60's swing. First known for his architectural work in the 30's and 40's, Ponti speaks to style and elegance in his later work like this set from circa 1964. And nothing warms in interior like a little bit of colorful style.

Speaking of colors, we are also excited about Chinese lacquer this fall! The truly impressive technique of carving into dried sap is called ‘coromandel’ or ‘bantamwork’. The sap, which comes from the Rhus vernicifera tree, only found in China, is mixed with various colors to and applied to furniture to create the most spectacular scenes. These were specifically for export to Europe and thank goodness for that! These cabinets depicting figurative scenes of daily life will be offered in the Style & Spirit sale in London.

And what better to pair these with than a truly stunning painting by Robert Arthur Goodnough (1917 -2010). This more obscure artist, from the New York Abstract Expressionist scene of the 1950s and 60s, brings light and color to his large canvases.  Working alongside artists like Jackson Pollack and Robert Rauschenberg, Goodnough is often regarded as “America’s most underrated artist”.  This effervescent canvas shows the artists knack for capturing weightless abstract forms constructed of colors and shapes. This is an artist we are most excited about as you can find a variety of his work up for offer in New York this autumn.

From paintings to console tables, stately furniture design never gets old as its grand style reigns supreme in our favorite Interiors. In the manner of William Kent, who brought architectural elements to interior furnishings, these giltwood console tables show off a very English trademark of the 18th century, of stately furniture in equally stately homes such as Hampton Court and Chiswick House in London. These are 20th century versions, but they hark to a time when bold design marked the most refined tastes and maintains this effect today.

Nothing takes the edge off those cold bitter days like a gorgeous carpet, which brings warmth and color to every space. A carpet is a great finishing touch to any interior and a fabulous way to tie a room together.  This Indian carpet will be offered in the October Interiors sale in New York.

And from the classic to the quirky, another top pick is this late Victoria three-fold screen depicting Vanity Fair ‘spy’ caricatures. We love this unique find which is surely a conversation piece for any room.  For the adventurous or the Victorian collector, this is a favorite that can surprisingly suit any interior be it modern or otherwise.

Already thinking about those winter getaways or dreaming about that summer beach break? Nothing brings the lazy days of holiday to mind like this Louis Vuitton wardrobe trunk being offered in London’s Style & Spirit sale.  Circa 1927, this trunk appeals to just about anyone who is attracted to great style. Its sleek yellow exterior is complimented by a yellow lining, hanging rail, five drawers, and linen dividers. This Louis Vuitton trunk is a true show stopper and one of the great treasures Interiors is offering this fall.
