A CASED PAIR OF 38-BORE FLINTLOCK DUELLING PISTOLS

With scratch rifled rebrowned twist octagonal sighted barrels, case-hardened recessed patent breeches each with platinum line and platinum-lined maker's stamp and touch-hole, engraved tangs each incorporating the back-sight, signed engraved detented locks each with safety-catch, roller and rainproof pan, the steels each engraved 'Joseph Manton Patent' and numbered repectively '6656' and '6657', figured walnut half-stocks (minor bruising), chequered butts (one repaired), finely engraved iron mounts including trigger-guards with martial trophy bearing the serial number, trigger-plates each with pineapple finial, silver escutcheons, horn fore-end caps, and later horn-tipped ramrods: in original lined and fitted mahogany case with accessories including three-way flask covered in red leather, the lid with trade label for 1819-20, flush-fitting carrying handle, and circular escutcheon, together with a separate trade label for circa 1810-12
