Post Lot Text
First edition of Nicéron's major work on perspective and geometrical optics. It concentrates primarily on the practical applications of perspective, catoptics and dioptrics, and on the illusory effects of optics associated with natural magic. Book IV "contains perhaps the first published reference to Descartes' derivation of the law of refraction (1638) and thus gains some historical significance" (DSB). Presentation copy, inscribed by the author to his monastic corrector. In its first, limp vellum binding.
