    Finement sculptée en forme de feuille aux veines incisées, l'extérieur orné de branchages feuillagés de chrysanthèmes et lotus, l'un d'entre eux formant le pied, l'intérieur agrémenté d'une branche terminée par une pivoine épanouie et deux boutons, une mante religieuse figurée à leurs côtés, une plus petite à l'extérieur ; petits éclats

    Compare the current example with an 18th century rhinoceros horn cup also carved with a praying mantis and illustrated in J. Chapman, The Art of Rhinoceros Horn Carving in China, Christie's Books Ltd., London 1999, p.240, pl.347. The author also illustrates p.166, pl.207 another cup which has a similarly carved lotus flower base.
