    A FINE PAIR OF OTTOMAN SILVER-MOUNTED FLINTLOCK HOLSTER PISTOLS WITH EGYPTIAN SILVER MARKS AND OTTOMAN TUGHRA, PROBABLY THAT OF THE SULTAN MAHMUD II (R.1808-1839AD.), PRESENTED BY KING FAROUK OF EGYPT
    EARLY 19TH CENTURY
    With French barrels and locks, the latter signed 'Berthon Bourlier et Fils Aine St. Etienne', wooden full stocks profusely inlaid with scrolling designs of engraved silver flowers and silver border ornament, wooden false ramrods en suite, full silver mounts cast in relief, including spurred pommels, trigger-guards and side-plates all decorated with flowers and trophies-of-war, each struck with a Tughra, and with silver escutcheons also en suite

    Provenance:

    H.R.H King Farouk of Egypt (R.1936-1952), presented to Mr. Maratos, the King's Greek friend and co-ordinator of the Royal hunts on the Nile. A pair of Ottoman swords also presented by King Farouk to Mr. Maratos were sold by Christie's, 20 September 2007, Antique Arms and Armour, lot 165.
