    A GERMAN CLEAVER AND SHEATH FROM A HUNTING TROUSSE
    18th Century
    The cleaver of coarse construction with broad rectangular blade drawn up to a point, struck with a series of decorative marks on one side and fitted with small disc pommel; the sheath constructed of wood and retaining some of its original facing fabric and leather respectively on the front and back, the body bound with bands and a large chape all of russet iron, all decorated with arrangements of pierced ovals, triangles, hemispheres and circles, the outer-face encased in matching iron panels, and with a pair of rings for suspension (an additional cleaver and knife each missing).
