    A GERMAN ETCHED COMB MORION OF THE GUARD OF THE COUNTS STUMPH VON NOTZING
    CIRCA 1580-90
    Formed in one piece, rising to a cabled comb, narrow brim drawn up to points front and rear, the base of the skull encircled by lining rivets on pewter rosettes, decorated throughout with etched panels of scrollwork on a granular ground, the comb involving putti and winged monsters, the skull centering on a strapwork cartouche left and right, the former filled with a putto riding a sea monster and the latter cartouche filled with the arms and crest of the counts Stumph von Notzing, struck with Nuremberg mark, and with turned cabled edge
