    THIRD QUARTER OF THE 18TH CENTURY
    With two-stage barrels, one earlier and stamped 'Lazarino Cominazzo' (the other replaced and coarsely inscribed to match), engraved locks, possibly Neapolitan, walnut full stocks cut with fluted mouldings, inset with earlier iron plaques chiselled in relief with scrolling patterns of flowers inhabited by monsters and grotesques, iron mounts en suite, and one with original ramrod

    The locks compare closely with a double lock signed 'Hoc Factum Francisco Franco' and dated 1764. See D. R. Baxter, Superimposed Load Firearms 1360-1860, 1966, p.119. The lock sold Christie's, 18 July 2002, lot 145.
