    Temir-Khan-Shira (Buynaksk at present) was the administrative capital of Daghestan before the Russian revolution. Muhammad Mirza Mawarayof was the founder and owner of the most significant Islamic printing press, al-Matba'a al-Islamiyya, in Daghestan at the end of the 19th and early 20th century
