    2 volumes, 8o (211 x 125 mm). Half-titles. Engraved folding map, 7 engraved plates (5 folding) and 2 leaves of currency facsimiles with some printed in red. (One folding plate laid down.) Contemporary polished calf, spines gilt, each with gilt-lettered red morocco spine label (rubbing to spine and corners). Provenance: The Rt. Hon. Viscount Eccles (his sale, Christie's New York, 18 November 1983, lot 6).

    FIRST EDITION. Anburey was an officer under General Burgoyne during the Revolutionary War and was captured at Saratoga. He was later shipped to Virginia, and his account, written in the form of seventy-nine letters, give details of his experiences and the manners and customs of the people he meets.
