Provenance: 'Al Abrams' (inscription from MacLeish).

    FIRST EDITION, IN DUST-JACKET, INSCRIBED BY MACLEISH: "For Al Abrams this copy of a disappearing book which maybe has something still to say. Archibald MacLeish forty years after". Essentially an American propaganda book compiling classic image by Dorothea Lange, Walker Evans, Russell Lee and others, Land of the Free "is a curiously inspiring book, a remarkable document of the general sentiment of the era" (The Photobook).
