Palermo: Tipografia del Giornale Letterario, 1834-1842. 5 volumes, 2° (431 x 286mm). Lithographic frontispiece portrait of the author in vol. V dated 1843, 183 engraved, etched or lithographed plates after the author by S. Cavallari, Digiovanni, Lipari, and others, 7 folding, 9 with coloured details. 22 engraved illustrations. (Occasional heavy spotting and browning to plates in vols I-III, 23.1 bound after 23.2 in vol. IV.) Original printed boards (spines worn). FIRST EDITION of Lo Faso Pietrasanta's greatest work on Sicilian antiquities. While the author has signed almost all the plates, Saverio Cavallari has signed 142 plates as draughtsman and 79 as engraver, far more than any other artist involved in this ambitious project. Engraved half-title, lithographic title, both in Norman lettering, the latter with vignette view of Monreale after Di Giovanni. 28 numbered plates after Serradifalco, one lithographic, the others engraved by S.
