Blesendorff, 85 engraved double-page plates COLORED BY A CONTEMPORARY HAND of the funeral procession, an engraved double-page hand-colored plate of the lying-in-state, 3 hand-colored plates (one double-page) of the coffin (one plate with clean tear repaired, a few plates slightly shorter). Modern moroco gilt. Provenance: Ludwig Rudolf, Duke of Braunschweig-Wolfenbüttel (1671-1735, bookplate "Ex Bibliotheca Ducis Brunsvicensis et Luneburgensis" around crowned 'LR' monogram and duplicate stamp on verso of preliminary blank).

    This splendid large volume commemorates the funeral procession of FRIEDRICH WILHELM (1620-1688), Elector of Brandenburg and the Duke of Prussia, who was popularly known as the "Grosse Kurfürst" (Great Elector) because of his military and political skill. The magnificent illustrations start with the depiction of a triumphal arch set up in Berlin's Brüderstrasse, and culminate in the series of 85 double-page panoramic plates colored by a contemporary hand of the funeral procession depicting the separate groups of mourners, each with their names and ranks given in the letterpress captions beneath.
