    2 parts in one volume, 2o (468 x 332 mm). 53 hand-colored aquatint plates by J. Clark after Bradford and H. Michel. (Some minor spotting.) Modern green half morocco gilt.

    FIRST EDITION, earliest issue, bound from original parts and therefore without the frontispiece (see Abbey), the plates watermarked 1808, and the text watermarked 1809, and the divisional title to Military Costume dated 1810. Bradford's Sketches of Portugal and Spain, which was first published in some 24 parts between 1809 and 1810, enjoyed great popularity in the immediate aftermath of the Peninsula War, with further issues following in 1812, 1813 and 1823.
