    FIRST EDITION OF CHARLOTTE BRONTë'S FIRST NOVEL, which remained unpublished until after her death. Drawn from Brontë's experiences in Brussels, the novel is told from the perspective of a male narrator, and has been the source of critical examination of gender issues as they relate to Brontë's later novels.
