    BUCKINGHAM, James Silk (1786-1855). Travels in Assyria, Media and Persia. London: Henry Colburn and Richard Bentley, 1830. 2 vols, 8° (213 x 135mm), folding engraved map of Persia, 25 wood-engraved plates, most after the author, drawn on the wood by W.H. Brooke. (Occasional light dust-soiling and spotting.) Contemporary polished calf, spines gilt, marbled edges and endpapers (lightly rubbed, covers a little stained and scuffed, title labels lacking). Provenance: S.F. Jacson (title inscription, awarding him the book as a classics prize, Rugby, Christmas 1841) -- [Newton Hall Library, Northumberland].

    Second edition, forming the fourth and most notable work in a series that followed the author's overland journey to India between 1813 and 1818. The first editon appeared in quarto in 1829. Lowndes I, 305 (wrongly dating this edition 1831). (2)
