8° (230 x 172mm). (Light marginal browning.) Original burlap, stiffened, upper side printed in burgundy.

FIRST EDITION. AN EXCELLENT COPY OF THIS ICONOCLASTIC MANIFESTO. A Slap was the first in a series of Futurist books of 1910-16 that produced an effect analogous to the succès de scandale of the exhibitions of the avant-garde painters' (MoMA, p.62). It attacks popular authors like Pushkin, Dostoevskii, Blok and others, and promotes art without retrospection or sophistry. Other contributors include Kandinskii and Benedikt Livshits. Kandinskii's prose vignettes were included without his consent, and the artist later distanced himself from the movement. RARE: 1 of 600 copies only. MoMA, The Russian Avant-Garde Book, p.63.
