    2 volumes, 8o (245 x 155 mm). Hand-colored frontispiece, 3 hand-colored maps (one folding), and 309 hand-colored illustrations on 176 leaves. Contemporary red half morocco and marbled boards, edges gilt (some rubbing to joints, spine and sides). Provenance: H.W. Meteyard (bookplate).

    Stated "seventh" edition, a later edition of Cartlin's Letters and Notes... WITH HAND-COLORED PLATES. According to Sabin "Mr. Bohn had twelve or more copies colored after the fancy of the artist who did the work, but tolerably well." Field 260; Howes C-241; Sabin 11536; Wagner-Camp-Becker 84 (note).
