'How precious memories are!'. Churchill is spurred to write by the death of a friend, and by a letter from Pamela, whose 'handwriting gladdened my heart ... My dear how precious memories are! I seem rejuvenated to read what you have sent me'. His time is spent in dawdling and he has not yet painted: 'Does the Riviera attract you at all? If so, let me know'.

Churchill was a frequent visitor in the late 1950s to 'La Capponcina', Lord Beaverbrook's villa.
