FIRST EDITION IN FRENCH, Antoine Suard’s translation of A Voyage to the South Pole and round the World, first published in 1777. Suard used both Cook’s account as well as Forster’s in the first four volumes of his translation, separating Forster’s content with inverted commas in the dovetailed account. The fifth volume, Observations by Johann Reinhold Forster, was published separately from Cook’s in the English edition and forms an appendix to vols.I-IV, omitting any repetitive material. Cox I, p.60; Sabin 16249.
