    2 volumes, 4o (265 x 205 mm). 2-page advertisements bound at the end of second. 2 engraved maps, and 23 plates (2 folding, 7 colored aquatints, 12 colored in sepia) most by T. Medland after the author. (Some occasional minor offsetting from plates onto text, very minor spotting.) Contemporary half calf, marbled boards (rebacked, some light wear to boards). Provenance: Stephen Massingberd (armorial bookplate).

    FIRST EDITION. Cordiner was chaplain on the island of Ceylon from 1799-1804 and here records his observations of island life, including descriptions of an elephant hunt, pearl fishing, and cinnamon cultivation. Abbey Travel 409. (2)
