    2 volumes, 8o (216 x 133 mm). 7 folding plates including one of Singapore after Capt. Robert Elliot by J. Clark, of Bangkok after "H.A.C." by J. Clark and two scenes in Cochin China drawn by "a Chinese," 3 engraved maps (2 folding), folding glossary, 13 plates after Reid (including full-page wood-engravings). (Lacks half-titles, large folding map torn and repaired, some light staining at beginning and end). 19th-century morocco gilt, gilt edges. Provenance: Reginald Crawfurd (ownership inscription).

    Second edition. Crawfurd, at one time a medical doctor with the East India Company, was an envoy to Cochin China and Siam in 1821 and in 1823 he became Governor of Singapore. Cordier Sinica 454. (2)
