    12° (158 x 97mm). (Title lightly browned.) 19th-century blue-black morocco, gilt cipher on upper side, gilt inner dentelles, gilt edges (light rubbing). Provenance: Anatole de Demidoff (San Donato library stamp and case-labels) -- Paul Pavlovich Demidov (binding, stamped cipher; by descent to:) -- HRH Princess Elizabeth of Yugoslavia.

    FIRST EDITION, THE DEMIDOV COPY. Svin'in, the anonymous author, had joined Russia's first permanent embassy to the United States in 1811 as secretary to Consul General Andrei Dashkov.
