FIRST EDITION OF THIS FINE FESTIVAL BOOK PRINTED BY BODONI the year after his appointment as head of the ducal printing shop and produced in celebration of the wedding of Ferdinand I (1751-1802), duke of Parma, to the archduchess Maria Amelia of Austria in 1769. The illustrations and text describe the various festivities, designed by the chief architect of the ducal court Ennemond Petitot, that marked the marriage, including tournaments, costume balls, fireworks, a pastoral play, and a Chinese fair. Particular attention is also given to those who attended and their attire. Giambattista Bodoni took over the Stamperia Reale in 1768, and this current work reflects his earlier style when he was still influenced by Pierre Simon Fournier. Brooks 6; Cicognara 1525.
