    8o (221 x 141 mm). 32-page publisher's advertisement at end. Etched frontispiece, title and 14 plates by Hablot K. Browne ["Phiz"] (plate 10 with a few chips at edges, some browning at edges). (A few text leaves coming loose, a few leaves with some minor chipping and spotting at edges.) Original deep red cloth, blindstamped on covers, gilt-lettered on spine (inner joints repaired, some soiling, few repairs at ends of spine); red cloth folding case. Provenance: Kenyon Starling (bookplate).

    FIRST EDITION IN BOOK FORM, FIRST ISSUE, with page 213 numbered "113." The novel was published in book form on November 21, 1859. FINE COPIES IN CLOTH ARE VERY SCARCE: according to American Book Prices Current, the last copy in original cloth to be sold at auction was the Blair copy, Sotheby's New York, 3 December 2004, joints mended.
