    DUBREUIL, Jean (1602-1670). Perspective Practical or, A Plain and Easie Method of True and Lively representing All Things to the Eye at a Distance, by the Exact Rules of Art. London: Robert Pricke, to be sold by S. Sprint, 1698. 4° (232 x 175mm), engraved frontispiece and 150 engravings. (Frontispiece and last leaf laid down, marginal damptain in some gatherings and the title, occasional light soiling.) Contemporary calf (rebacked). Provenance: John Bowen (inscriptions dated 1706 recording the price of 12s; initials stamped on covers) -- Benjamin King (inscriptions, one dated 1769) -- S.E. Cook (inscription dated 1827).

    Second edition in English of this popular and richly illustrated treatise on perspective by the Jesuit scholar Père Dubreuil, first published in 1642. The first English edition appeared in 1672, and the appearace of an edition as late as 1743 is evidence of its lasting value. Wing D-2412.
