ESENIN, Sergei Aleksandrovich (1895-1925). Radunitsa. [Celebration.] St. Petersburg: M.V. Aver'ianov, 1916.

8° (195 x 135mm). Half-title, final advertisement leaf. Original grey printed wrappers (slightly soiled, spine torn), uncut.

FIRST EDITION OF THE AUTHOR'S FIRST PUBLISHED COLLECTION OF POEMS. Of peasant origin from Riazan', Esenin moved to Moscow in 1912 and to St. Petersburg in 1915, where he became acquainted with his literary comtemporaries. At first hopeful of the revolution, he became increasingly despondent, and after five marriages and deteriorating mental health, he committed suicide in his room at the Hotel Angleterre on 27 December 1925, having left a farewell poem written in his own blood. Kilgour 301; Tarasenkov p.139.
