Folding engraved frontispiece and 13 folding plates (light offsetting from plates, light spotting and browning, occasional marginal stains, front endpapers strengthened with adhesive tape, partly torn). Contemporary calf (very rubbed and scuffed, joints broken, lower cord of front joint split). Provenance: Robert Augustus Johnson (signature on endpaper, dated 1764) -- partly removed bookplate -- British Astronomical Association (stamps on pastedown and title). FIRST EDITION of this popular work that went through seventeen editions. Wallis 75.

Contemporary half morocco (extremities heavily rubbed, a little scuffed).
