    Huntington and another official direct "John Lawrence Esq., Treasurer of the State of Connecticut...to pay out of the Treasury to Prosper Wetmore...Sheriff of New London County" [£4] lawful money for his attending the Election in May 1777 & distributing Laws and Proclamations the Year past...."

    In October 1775 Huntington was elected one of his state's delegates to the Continental Congress. At the same time he served as a justice of the Connecticut Supreme Court and a member of the Governor's Council. He held the post of President of the Congress from 1779 to 1781.
