(Evenly browned, title detached and with loss affecting a few letters.) Near contemporary green limp vellum, upper side and spine lettered in manuscript (lacking front free endpaper, lacking ties, spine faded to brown, some wear). Provenance: an early reader (manuscript index, some marginalia).

    RARE FIRST EDITION. AMONG THE EARLIEST EUROPEAN ACCOUNTS OF RUSSIA, AND THE EARLIEST BIOGRAPHY OF IVAN THE TERRIBLE, with a woodcut portrait on the title. ABPC records only one copy selling at auction in 30 years (Swann, 18 January 1990). Russia Engages the West, p.188.
