Provenance: Louise Burrows (signature on front blank). FIRST ENGLISH EDITION of the novel the critic John Middleton Murry called Lawrence's greatest, and which motivated Murry to found the Adelphi. There are significant differences between the American and English editions. Cf. Roberts A21.
