FIRST EDITION, INSCRIBED BY ALEXANDRE NARISHKINE TO MLLE OUCHAKOFF, Maid of Honour to Grand Duchess Alexandrine of Mecklenburg-Schwerin, Princess of Prussia. This album, printed in French and Russian, records the festivities organised by Maria Feodorovna on the occasion of her daughter Maria Pavlovna's birthday: including performances of two Romances, a Ballad and a Charade. The reproductions include a number of portraits of Russian nobles arranged in historical tableaux. Ouchakoff (ie. Ushakov) is shown as one of the nymphs in the tableau based on Calypso's discovery of Eucharis' love for Telemachus. The text also includes Lomonosov's translation of 'Anacreon and Amore'. Alexandre Narishkine, Chamberlain and Grand Marshal, was also in charge of the Imperial theatres, during which time he attracted some of Europe's finest actors to St. Petersburg. RARE: WorldCat records no copies outside of Russia.
