2o (385 x 274 mm). 7 engraved plates (2 double-page) after JOHANN DEGLER by FRANZ XAVER JOSEPH SPäTH. Modern boards (spine worn).

Published at the occasion of the return of Elector MAXIMILIAN II (1662- 1726) of Bavaria, from exile in the Spanish Netherlands. Maximilian also known as Max Emanuel or Maximilian Emanuel, the Wittelsbach ruler of Bavaria and an elector of the Holy Roman Empire, also the last Governor of the Spanish Netherlands and duke of Luxembourg, was exiled in 1704 as a result of the of the War of the Spanish Succession in 1701 (allying himself with the French against the Habsburgs). He fled to the Netherlands, and was subsequently forced to seek refuge at the French court in Versailles, after the Battle of Ramillies 1706. His return from exile is celebrated in this beautifully illustrated work which contains 7 illustrations of fountains, obelisks and a triumphal arch by JOHANN DEGLER (1666-1729). Berlin 2878.
