    PANDONI, Giovanni Antonio de', called PORCELLIO. Trium poetarum elegantissimorum, Porcelii, Basinii & Trebani opuscula, nunc primum diligentia ... in lucem aedita, edited by Christophe Preudhomme, Paris: Simon Colines, 1539. 8° (163 x 105mm.), publisher's device on title, italic type, woodcut criblé initials, brown crushed levant morocco by Capé, covers with a roll border of fleurons flanked by two panels of double fillets with an interlacing lozenge, central arabesque within double-filleted frame, arabesque cornerpieces, spine gilt and lettered, gilt turn-ins, gilt edges. Provenance: old ink stamp, with double-eagle and crown, of 'Palatina Gerbevillegiana'; note that the volume was described by Techener in Bulletin du Bibliophile 1852, no.1862 p.874; acquired by Charles Giraud (his sale 1855, lot 1139); J. Gomez de la Cortina, marqués de Morante (1808-1868, booklabel, described in his sale catalogue, 1872 lot 974, as 'cet exemplaire par sa perfection, est digne de la splendide reliure de Capé').

    FIRST EDITION of a very rare collection of neo-Latin poems written in the 15th century in praise of Sigismondo Pandolfo Malatesta da Rimini and his mistress Isotta degli Atti (whom he married in 1456).They are by the three court poets Porcellio de'Pandoni, Basinio de'Basini da Parma, and Aurelio Trebanio, with additional poems by the editor, Preudhomme. 'The volume marks the first, and in several cases, the only edition of these Neolatin panegyrics' (Schreiber). Renouard Colines p.314; Schreiber, Colines 169. (3)
