PASTERNAK, Boris. Doktor Zhivago. Milan: Feltrinelli, [1957.]
8° (212 x 136mm). (Margins lightly browned, as often.) Original printed green paper boards, original illustrated dust-jacket (dust-jacket chipped at spine-ends and corners, small chips to the front panel, price-clipped).
FIRST EDITION IN RUSSIAN of this celebrated novel, in the dust-jacket. Gian Giacomo Feltrinelli, although an active communist, smuggled the manuscript out of the USSR and resisted pressure against its publication, which brought success and renown to his publishing house. After winning the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1958, Pasternak was forbidden by the Soviet authorities to accept it, and saw his works prohibited in his homeland.
