    19 volumes (of 20), 4° (256 x 194 mm). Half-titles in vols.IV, VI-IX, XV, XVI, XVIII, XIX, titles printed in red and black. Numerous engraved plates and maps (many folding). (A few leaves lightly browned or with scant spotting.) Uniformly bound in contemporary calf gilt, spines in 6 compartments with 5 raised bands gilt, brown and green morocco lettering-pieces, board edges and turn-ins gilt, edges red (some light rubbing, a few spines with light chipping).

    FIRST EDITION of this “important and scarce collection” (Hill). Volumes I-VII are a translation of Green’s A new general collection of voyages and travels, first published in 1745, and the Abbé Provost compiled volumes VIII-XV. Volume XVI is the general index for the work, and volume XVII gives the account of the Dutch East Indies, from the edition printed at La Haye. Volumes XVIII, XIX and XX (not present in this set, as often) were published in 1768, 1770 and 1779, respectively, and were edited by Meusnier de Querlon, J.P.
