    4o. Frontispiece and 12 mounted color plates, numerous illustrations throughout (some pale offsetting from mounts on text leaves). Original gilt-decorated cloth, decorated endpapers, t.e.g., others uncut. Provenance: Gordon A. Block (his sale, Sotheby's Parke Bernet, 29 January 1974, lot 168).

    LIMITED EDITION, number 872 of 1130 copies. This copy includes an ORIGINAL SIGNED INK AND WATERCOLOR DRAWING BY RACKHAM on the half-title depicting the Queen of Hearts pointing to the head of the grinning Chesshire Cat shouting "Off with his head!" (p.107) and a defencive executioner who's "argument was, that you couldn't cut off a head unless there was a body to cut it of from" (p.109).
