    RUSKIN, John (1819-1900). Autograph letter signed ('J. Ruskin') to Leonard Bakerley, [place illegible], 27 September [1871], 'Your letter has gone a long way, to find me near', thanking Bakerley for his remarks on 'mechanical drawing ... The drawing of these mechanical solids and their shadows is a ridiculous & useless child's play -- as regards art, and child's torment as regards children', asking in a postscript to have a citation of the passage concerned, 1½ pages, 8vo, bifolium (splitting along upper horizontal fold, minor soiling, upper portion of integral blank lacking).
