A fine album of photographs from the collection of Princess Nicholas of Greece, Grand Duchess Elena Vladimirovna, grand-daughter of Tsar Alexander II, mother of Princess Marina, Duchess of Kent. The often informal photographs, many of these taken by Grand Duchess Elena on her own camera, record summer visits to imperial residences at Tsarskoe Selo, Pavlovsk, Peterhof, Krasnoe Selo, Ropsha, and others including the St. Petersburg Library, and the armoured cruiser 'Rossiya' which had been launched the year before. The captions, in Grand Duchess Elena's hand, identify numerous family members, notable contemporaries and friends, including Tsar Nicholas II ('Niki') and Alix, Elena's father Grand Duke Vladimir, mother Duchess Marie of Mecklenburg-Schwerin, brothers Grand Dukes Andrei, Boris and Kirill, uncles Grand Dukes Paul and Alexis, friends Mary Bielossielsky, Sonia Wassmoundt, Tatishchev, Beliaev, Ushakov, Obolensky, and many others including household staff and pets Pedro and Jack.
