    Hadith, Arabic and Persian manuscript on gold-sprinkled paper, 9ff. plus 4 fly-leaves, each folio with 7ll. of elegant black nasta'liq of various sizes arranged in one or two columns and contained within gold-outlined panels, each folio with two such panels with 4ll. of diagonal nasta'liq, text panels laid down between variously coloured rules on gold-speckled borders, opening folio with gold and polychrome illuminated headpiece, first bifolio with text in continuous prose, colophon signed dated and stating that the copy was done in Mashhad, fly-leaves between each folio, some mild staining, in lacquer binding with floral borders and red doublures, one with a blue decoupé tree

    Salim of Nishapur is recorded as a pupil of Shah Mahmud and a master in nasta'liq and particularly for writing in colours. He lived in Mashhad and died in circa AH 990/1582 AD. Salim's works are dated between AH 961 and 976 (1554 and 1568 AD) (Mehdi Bayani,Ahval va Asar-e Khosh-Nevisan, Vol.I, Tehran, 1345 sh., pp. 282-4).

    The latest recorded manuscript of Salim is another copy of the Forty Sayings of the Prophet dated AH 986/1578-79 AD and sold in these Rooms, 07 October 2008, lot 313.
