Johan Bernardus Vrijthoff (Frythof), is recorded working in The Hague (Hage = 's-Gravenhage) third quarter 18th Century. Vrijthoff was probably born circa 1744 and died around 1797. In 1764 there is a record of him buying a house at the Herderinnenweg of 't Zand in The Hague. From 1773 until 1797 Vrijthoff is recorded as chief and dean of the watchmakers' guild.
Another musical longcase clock by Vrijthoff, with closely related features is illustrated in J. Zeeman, De Nederlandse staande klok, Zwolle, 1996, p. 218-219, ill. 38-40.
