    The caddy-topped hood with fretwork panels and surmounted by replaced Atlas and angels finials, with inset brass-capped ebonised columns and fretwork side panels, the trunk with ebonised band inlays to the sides, canted front angles and with ebonised moulding to the rectangular door, also with band inlay and cast brass lenticle modelled as a cartouche with Chronos figure and fruit basket, above plinth with projecting scroll angles and on claw and ball feet, the 31 cm. (12 in.) wide brass dial with engraved border and seasonal spandrels, silvered chapter ring with sword hilt half hour markers and leafy sprig half quarter hour markers, signed Jan Rensman Zwol, the matted centre with 'keyhole' month aperture also showing a figural representation, ringed winding holes and date aperture with scroll engraving around, the engraved arch with silvered and engraved 'penny' moon with age of moon and tidal indication, blued steel hands, the eight day movement with four ringed and latched pillars, repositioned anchor escapement and Dutch rack strike on two bells; two brass weights, pendulum, two weights, crank key, door key

    Little is known about Jan Rensman, other than that he was working in Zwolle in the period 1700-1725.
