    A FRENCH LARGE SILVERED, GILT-BRONZE AND BLACK MARBLE CONICAL PENDULUM CLOCK

    CASE: surmounted by a standing classically-draped figure holding the star-painted spherical pendulum (replaced) in her left hand, the black marble shaped plinth case flanked by rampant lions with gilt shields and centred by further shield cast with an hour glass and flanked by feathered wings
    DIAL: 5 in. diameter gilt dial with applied individual gilt Roman chapters, the centre revealing the partially skeletonised movement, the inner ring signed 'Eug Cornu/24 Bu" des Italians/PARIS', blued steel hands
    MOVEMENT: twin barrels with rack strike on bell, the back plate engraved with the monogram of Farcot above 'calibre 3, No.51', the last pinion in the going train extended through the top of the case to engage with the pendulum; winding key

    A large conical pendulum clock of closely related design sold, Sotheby's, New York, The Joseph M. Meraux Collection of Rare and Unusual Clocks, 28 June 1993, lot 471; and a further large conical pendulum clock also of closely related design sold anonymously, Bonhams, London, 8 June 2004, lot 48.
