    Each surmounted by a laurel-wreath framed cameo flanked by two cherub-masks above a rectangular plaque with bulb-thermometer, one marked for the Réaumur scale, the other for centigrade, above a further cameo, each with a white enamel dial inscribed BONTEMPS A PARIS, surrounded by a flower-filled cornucopia, with pine cone terminal

    The present cartel d'applique and matching barometer are based on a model attributed to the bronzier Pierre-Joseph-Désiré Gouthière (d. 1813), formerly at the Château de Saint-Cloud and now in the permanent collection at the Musée du Louvre (cat. nos 392 and 393).

    An example of the clock by Paul Sormani was sold Sotheby's, New York, A Private Collection, Volume II, 19 April 2007, lot 28 ($27,000).
