This clock may be compared with a fine red-lacquered clock by Du Chesne, sold anonymously, Christie's London, 1 July 2005, lot 141. That clock also has an age of moon ring centred by a penny moonphase, a similarly-shaped false pendulum aperture and raised collets to the winding holes. The present clock was probably originally a little taller, with a fretwork section below the cushion-moulded top; this feature may be seen on the lacquered clock and on another example by Du Chesne, sold anonymously, Christie's London, 5 July 2006, lot 148. See also previous lot.
